This special release comprises the unfinished Fourth Doctor story 'Shada' and the extended cut of the 1993 thirtieth anniversary documentary 'More Than Thirty Years in the TARDIS'.
Disc 1 - Shada
• Shada – VHS version – six individual episodes of varying length with an
introduction and separate credits roll (total dur. 109’ 18”), reconstructed
using studio recordings and links from Tom Baker.
• Shada – Flash version (165MB) – a Flash animated version produced by
Big Finish for BBCi in 2003, starring Paul McGann and Lalla Ward.
Disc 2 – Shada Extras
• Taken out of Time (dur. 25’ 36”) – cast and crew look back at the
making of this uncompleted story. With actors Tom Baker and Daniel Hill,
director Pennant Roberts, production manager Ralph Wilton, production assistant
Olivia Bazalgette and design assistant Les McCullum.
• Now and Then (dur. 12’ 42”) – the latest in our ongoing series visits
Cambridge to compare and contrast the city locations as they appear in Shada
with how they look today. Narrated by Richard Bignell.
• Strike! Strike! Strike! (dur. 27’ 31”) – although by far the most high
profile victim, Shada was by no means the only Doctor Who story to be affected
by industrial action over the years, as this fascinating documentary reveals.
With actress Nicola Bryant, director Paul Seed, Liberal Democrat peer Lord
Addington, BECTU union president Tony Lennon and script editor and union rep
Gary Russell. Presented by BBC political correspondent Shaun Ley.
• Being a Girl (dur. 29’ 40”) – Emma Price and Samira Ahmed look at the
way women have been represented in Doctor Who over the years. Narrated by Louise
Jameson.
Disc 3 – More Than Thirty Years in the
TARDIS
• More Than Thirty Years in the TARDIS (dur. 87’ approx) – cast, crew and
celebrity fans of Doctor Who from 1963 to 1993 talk about the programme in an
extended version of Kevin Davies’ warmly nostalgic look back at the history of
the series on its thirtieth birthday.
• Remembering Nicholas Courtney (dur. 25’ 59”) – Nicholas Courtney’s
friend and biographer Michael McManus takes the actor most famous for playing
Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart on a fond look back at his life, in
this documentary recorded shortly before his death in early 2011. Featuring many
clips from his long career in television and a special appearance by the fourth
Doctor himself, Tom Baker.
• Doctor Who Stories – Peter Purves (dur. 13’ 30”) – actor Peter Purves
talks about his time in Doctor Who in this interview originally shot for the
BBC’s 2003 documentary ‘The Story of Doctor Who’.
• The Lambert Tapes – Part One (dur. 10’ 34”) – Doctor Who’s first
producer, Verity Lambert, looks back at the early days of the programme in this
interview also shot for ‘The Story of Doctor Who’.
• Those Deadly Divas (dur. 22’ 37) – actresses Kate O’Mara, Camille
Coduri and Tracy Ann Oberman are joined by writers Gareth Roberts and Clayton
Hickman to examine the role of the diva in Doctor Who.
